International Migrants Day
Migrants are important players in the social, economic, political, cultural, national and human development across the world. Today, as migration trends are getting more complex and dynamic and push factors are multiplying by the day especially in developing countries. Migrants are compelled to leave their country or communities. The search for a better life exposes them to all forms of challenges including discrimination, injustice, xenophobia attacks, language and cultural barriers, unequal opportunities, under-employment and deprivation. As ACAJP, we are obliged to defend, protect and advocate for the rights of migrants together with other partners as they struggle to deal with these numerous challenges. December 18 provides an opportunity to reawaken the commitment of all and sundry to celebrate the migrants’ contributions to development and uphold the dignity of migrants wherever they are.
